A Special Kind of Magic...
Hello thanks so much for stumbling on to my first blog post for my new website Emily Daniel Photography. I thought it would make sense to begin with a brief introduction and a little explanation as to why I've titled this blog "Keeping it Simple".
I am, and always have been obsessed with photography. I've also been lucky to have spent the last 20 years of my working life around photographs and photographers. From my days in advertising where I would art direct photographers on how to get the right image. Before spending hours choosing the most emotive photograph to sell a product or convey a mood. In that time and exposure to literally thousands of photographs I can honestly say that it was always the simplest ones that had the biggest impact on me. Yes there were elaborate set ups and expensive studio shots that were definitely impressive but a simple moment of pure joy or a genuine smile always won me over.
This was compounded after I had my daughters and fell in love with the art of taking photographs as a way to capture a moment that otherwise would be quickly forgotten. The small simple things so easily overlooked but uniquely made them who they are was, and still holds a special kind of magic.
• The ever so tatty but favourite cuddly toy that never left their side but got increasingly grubby and worn with every new adventure.
• The innocence and magic of discovering a new creature or flower.
• Exploring their world with numerous walks around the same four fields where we live during lockdown with each one bringing a new experience.
•Afternoons baking and a "stolen" lipstick, each moment easily overlooked and forgotten about but when captured brings back a memory and its moment of magic.
Now that I have made the leap into portrait photography it's important that I keep to my values of keeping things simple. I want to be able to capture your magic moments of you and your family simply being yourselves. Which is why I will never suggest an unnatural studio space or silly poses or use intrusive lights. All of which just makes you feel awkward. Instead I will always suggest that we take the shots where you and your family will feel at their most comfortable.
So to sum up, I believe the small, simple moments of families and children just being themselves is where the true magic of life is found, and so this is where I will focus my camera and capture those moments for you!
